Jose Trevino’s sixth homer keys Indians win

PASCO – Jose Trevino slugged a three-run homer to snap a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning and the Spokane Indians went on to a 7-3 Northwest League victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils on Saturday night.

Eduard Pinto and Seth Spivey hit back-to-back singles with one out in the fifth. Carlos Yan then came in to relieve Dust Devils starting pitcher Logan Sawyer and Trevino greeted Yan with his sixth home run of the season.

Indians starter Reed Garrett (3-0) pitched six innings to get the win, giving up six hits and three runs, including two homers, while striking out five and walking none.

The Indians extended their lead to 7-3 in the eighth inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled with one out and Fernando Vivili was hit by a pitch. Chuck Moorman drove in Kiner-Falefa with a single and Pinto connected for his fifth double to bring in Vivili.

Spokane scored its other two runs in the third inning on Spivey’s sixth double that brought in Vivili and Moorman.

Spivey had three hits to boost his league-leading average to .407. Pinto, Trevino, Moorman and Luke Tendler all had two hits in the 13-hit attack.

With the victory, the Indians (21-8) extended its division lead to four games over Vancouver with nine games left in the first half.

The victory was the third in a row for Spokane, which finishes its three-game series with the Dust Devils tonight before heading to Boise for five games.
