Indians falter late, lose to Hawks

BOISE – The Boise Hawks scored five runs in the eighth inning to rally for an 8-4 Northwest League victory over the Spokane Indians on Wednesday night.

The loss, combined with Vancouver’s 3-0 loss to Eugene, kept Spokane’s North Division lead at two games.

Erik Swanson (0-1) took the loss for the Indians (22-11). He allowed five runs on four hits over 1 2/3 innings. After coming on in the seventh and getting out of a jam, Swanson returned in the eighth and gave up two doubles, two singles and two walks.

Spokane took an early lead with a three-run second. After Marcus Greene walked to lead off the inning, Zach Cone hit his fifth home run of the season for a 2-0 lead. Two outs later, Diego Cedeno reached on an error, Eduard Pinto’s single moved him to third, and Seth Spivey’s single drove him home.

In the fifth, Spivey doubled and was driven home by Luke Tendler’s double to give the Indians a 4-1 lead.
