People: Shirley MacLaine tells grads to use their imagination

Shirley MacLaine wants the New Mexico School for the Arts’ first graduating class to remember that there is nothing more important than imagination.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports the Oscar-winning actress and part-time Santa Fe resident gave the commencement speech Saturday to 48 students at the Greer Garson Theatre.

Greeted with a standing ovation, MacLaine said the event was not about her.

She told students to use their imagination because that is what would create their sense of who they are.

Car, jewelry stolen from Cyrus’ home

Los Angeles police are searching for a pair of burglars they say broke into Miley Cyrus’ San Fernando Valley home and got away with jewelry and a luxury car.

The LAPD said officers from the department’s North Hollywood station responded to a report of a burglary Friday at Cyrus’ home.

They say a man and a woman scaled a fence and got inside the house and garage while no one was home.

A 2014 Maserati luxury sedan and an unspecified amount of jewelry were taken.

Melissa Etheridge, Linda Wallem marry

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and gay rights activist Melissa Etheridge has gotten married.

People magazine says the 53-year-old Etheridge married partner Linda Wallem at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California, on Saturday.

Etheridge and the 53-year-old Wallem, a co-creator of the television series “Nurse Jackie,” began dating in 2010.

Besides the singer’s four children, the magazine says several celebrities attended the ceremony, including Chelsea Handler, Rosie O’Donnell, Whitney Cummings, Peter Facinelli and recording artist Sia.
