Obituary: Copeland, June Jean (Headlee)
Age 93
She was born on April 9, 1921 in Spokane to Frances Headlee and Nellie (Neighbors) Headlee.
She was a lifelong Spokane resident and graduated from North Central High School in 1939.
She loved Spokane, the Zags, the river, the Mariners, and most of all her family.
June was a homemaker until her husband passed away in 1968.
While taking care of us at home she started her working career.
She was a nanny, and she worked at Hyde Secretarial Service downtown.
Following that she became a teachers reading assistant for Central Valley Progress Elementery and on to JC Penneys until her retirement at the age of 72 as a Million Dollar Jewelry Sales lady.
The last in our family of “the greatest generation” and as her mother wrote on her birth announcement “This is a picture of the sweetest little girl in the world.”
Those that knew her knew this to be true.
June volunteered for several years at Spokane Valley Hospital and the election board.
She is survived by her son John Copeland (Annette) and their children Ed and Christine of Olympia, daughter Linda Christensen (Chris) and their children Lorie, Sherie, Stacie and Jodie of Spokane, son Dwight Copeland and his children Travis and Katie of Kennewick, daughter Christine Copeland Payne (Rusty) and children Charles, Todd and Brooke of Spokane, son Mike Copeland (Reagan) and children Treavor, Roslyn and Carson of Seattle, nieces Maggie Haverfield and Dorothy Carroll, nephew Vic Headlee and 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her longtime friends Lois and Ethel.
June was preceded in death by her husband Melford “Pal” Copeland, sisters Fay Goldsmith and Christine Luster, brothers Vic Headlee and Don Headlee and nephews Jim Luster and Bobby Luster.
