Age 81
(Kleist) Merriel J. Johnson (Kleist) was born on June 19, 1932 in Spokane, WA, to John and Ethel Henderson.
She went to school in Freeman, WA and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.
Merriel worked for the telephone company for some time.
She raised three boys on her own after the passing of her first husband, Don Kleist.
Five years later, she married Iver Johnson.
She loved boating, camping at Priest Lake, and traveling local and abroad.
Most of all, Merriel enjoyed all of her many relatives and close friends.
She passed away on May 18, 2014 at the age of 81.
She is survived by her sons, Dale M. Kleist (Ann) of Spokane, WA and David P. Kleist of Trail, OR; sister, Margie F. Middendorf of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Marissa Kleist and Kayla Kleist and numerous nieces and nephews.
Merriel is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald F. Kleist (1962) and second husband, Iver L. Johnson (1989); son, Kenneth Kleist; and brothers, Calvin L. Henderson and Gerald O. Henderson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 7 at Our Lady of Fatima (1517 E. 33rd) at 2:00 pm.
