TripAdvisor.com has released its 2014 Traveler’s Choice Awards and it includes Manito Park, which was named one of the top 25 parks in the country.

Other winners include New York City’s Central Park and Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

The TripAdvisor website generates reviews and comments from travelers and the Traveler’s Choice Awards are given to the attractions and destinations that gather the most glowing reviews during a 12-month period.

Manito Park’s listing on TripAdvisor features 97 photos posted by visitors, including the Christmas light display at the Gaiser Conservatory, Duncan Garden, roses and the Japanese Garden.

Reviewers left more than 350 comments, including “The rose garden is a little corner of heaven” and “You would be remiss if you did not visit Manito Park while in Spokane. What you view from the road is nothing compared to what you see inside the park.”

Visitors also point out that the park is accessible for people with disabilities.

Nancy Goodspeed, spokeswoman for the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department, said parks staff of course agree that Manito Park is a gem, and that this award is especially significant because it was generated by people who’ve actually visited.

“National recognition is important to our city’s economic vitality and quality of life,” Goodspeed said, “because it helps to attract and maintain business, a quality workforce and tourism.”
