Man arrested for shooting his brother

A shooting victim dropped off at Sacred Heart Hospital emergency room at 2 a.m. today led police to arrest the victim’s brother on multiple charges. The victim was reportedly arguing with his brother and put his arm up to defend himself from a punch when he heard a loud bang and realized he had been shot in the arm, according to court documents. Police arrested Jy Jy Jones, 30, for first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was ordered held on $100,000 bond during a brief court appearance Thursday. Jones’ previous criminal history includes convictions for possession of a controlled substance, burglary, robbery and attempting to elude police. Jones told witnesses that the shooting was an accident and he didn’t mean to shoot his brother, court documents say. Police believe the shooting happened in the 1100 block of East Newark. A witness to the shooting said Jones gave him the gun he used and said to get rid of it. The witness told police he buried the gun near the Office Depot parking lot on Third Avenue, court documents say. The gun was recovered. The victim has non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
