Idaho baseball: Lakeland advances to 4A championship game

The Lakeland baseball team outlasted Skyview 16-10 in the semifinals of the 4A State tournament Friday at Rodeo Park in Nampa, Idaho.

Skyview scored five runs in the first inning, but the Hawks’ bats couldn’t be held in check.

Lakeland’s Kenny Cooper and Logan Bruner each had four hits and two RBIs.

The Hawks, who missed last year’s state tournament and lost their first two games at state in 2012, advanced to today’s title game against Twin Falls. The Bruins advanced after beating Columbia 9-3 in the first round and Bishop Kelly 6-4 in the semifinals.

First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

Lewiston advanced to the consolation finals after beating Madison 7-3 in a loser-out game at Boise Hawks Memorial Stadium in Boise.

The Bengals scored five runs in the seventh to go ahead for good.

Coeur d’Alene was eliminated after a 4-3 loss to Highland. The Rams scored all four runs in the first three innings, then kept the Vikings’ bats quiet the rest of the game.

Highland will play Lewiston today at 10 a.m.

Timberlake beat Homedale 9-6 in Fruitland, Idaho, and will play Teton in today’s consolation championship.

Teton advanced with a 7-5 win over Shelley.

2A

St. Maries was eliminated after a 6-3 loss to Malad in Orofino, Idaho.

The Lumberjacks went 1-2 at last year’s state tournament.
