Military veterans and personnel along with police officers, firefighters and EMTs can get in free this three-day weekend at Silverwood Theme Park.

Their children and spouses get in for half price during the North Idaho park’s American Heroes Weekend.

“It’s our way of saying thank you,” said Nancy DiGiammarco, a spokeswoman for the park.

Daily operation starts Saturday at the park, which has been open weekends only since May 3. Silverwood’s Boulder Beach Water Park opens May 31.

ID is required for free admission, and family members must buy their daily tickets at the gate to get the discounted prices: $10.49 for children ages 3 to 7 and seniors, and $18.99 for people ages 8 to 64.

“If they want to come two days, three days, it doesn’t matter. This is their weekend,” DiGiammarco said.

Open for its 27th season, Silverwood has four roller coasters, a drop tower, and other rides and attractions. Boulder Beach has two wave pools, water slides, play areas for children and private cabanas – outfitted with lounge chairs, refrigerators and other amenities – available for rent.

The park has added infrastructure elements, DiGiammarco said, including new restroom and other facilities at the front of the park and a renovated courtyard.

Work on a new family and children’s area is underway, she said, although it probably won’t be open this weekend. The children’s rides will be up and running, though.
