Big Sky roundup: Mustangs run way past Bobcats

Chris Brown passed for one touchdown and ran for two more and Karlton Dennis had a late interception to help the Cal Poly Mustangs hold off the Montana State Bobcats 35-27 on Saturday night in San Luis Obispo, California.

Cal Poly is one of six teams with just one loss in conference play.

Clinging to a 28-27 lead, Cal Poly took possession at its own 21 with 10:40 to play. The Mustangs marched 79 yards on 17 plays – all runs – capped by a 2-yard TD from Brown with 2:38 remaining.

Gunnar Brekke returned the ensuing kickoff 31 yards and Montana State took over at its own 43. Seven plays later, on fourth-and-2 from the 19, Dakota Prukop’s pass was intercepted by Dennis.

Idaho State 31, Portland State 13: Justin Arias passed for 319 yards and two TDs and Xavier Finney rushed for 88 yards and two scores to power the Bengals to a victory over the Vikings in Portland.

ISU has won four straight games for the first time since the 2002 season.

Montana 31, Sacramento State 13: Jordan Canada rushed for 109 yards and two TDs and Jordan Johnson passed for 143 yards and a score to lead the Grizzlies to a victory over the Hornets in Missoula.

Northern Arizona 29, Weber State 22: Jordan Perry threw two TD passes to help the Lumberjacks overcome an early 22-point deficit and beat the Wildcats in Ogden, Utah.

Northern Colorado 27, UC Davis 21: Sean Rubalcaba had 352 yards of total offense, threw two TD passes and ran for a score to lead the Bears past the Aggies in Davis, California.
