Dressel wins 3A; CV sweeps 4A titles

Mt. Spokane’s John Dressel pulled away from defending State 3A champion Tanner Anderson of North Central with about 800 yards to go and claimed the individual title at the 3A regional cross country meet Saturday at Carmichael Middle School in Richland.

Dressell covered the 5,000-meter course in 14 minutes, 57.41 seconds. Anderson crossed in 15:03.81.

North Central, however, claimed the team title with four runners finishing inside the top 10.

Kamiakin was second, followed by Mt. Spokane and Shadle Park.

In the girls race, Mt. Spokane’s Micaela Kostecka took second place and the Wildcats edged Kamiakin for the team title. Kostecka finished in 18:14.35. Shadle Park’s Lauren Dunnell earned medalist honors with a time of 18:13.67.

• Central Valley’s Briton Demars and Spencer Jensen finished first and second, respectively, and the Bears took the 4A boys team title.

Demars finished in 15:07.29 and Jensen crossed in 15:24.82.

Mead’s Corbin Carlton was third, followed by a trio of U-Hi runners (Patrick Miranne, Isaac Barville and Hunter Simson).

Central Valley also claimed the girls title. Gabrielle Ford had the Bears’ only top 10 finish. She claimed fourth in 18:25.01. Lewis and Clark, led by freshman Katie Thronson’s second-place finish, punched its ticket to state by taking second overall.

The top two 4A and 3A boys and girls teams qualified for the state meet, along with the 20 top finishers not on those teams.

The State championships will be held Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

• The Northwest Christian boys and St. George’s girls claimed titles at the 1B/2B regional meet in Pasco.

In the boys race, the Crusaders had five runners finish in the top 10. NWC’s Jack Ammon was second with a 5,000-meter time of 16:03.

Lind-Ritzville’s Tracy Melville won the girls race in 18:09.3. St. George’s Madison Ward and Marika Morelan were second and third, respectively.

Boys soccer

Alex Ramsey scored two second-half goals and Northwest Christian (10-5) blanked Moses Lake Christian 6-0 in a subregional elimination game at Northwest Christian. Jesse Meyer, Ryan Meyers, Ian Starkey and Johan Taylor also scored goals for the Crusaders.

In another subregional loser-out match, Michael Hamilton and Blaise Osborn scored goals and St. George’s (14-0) blanked visiting Valley Christian 2-0.

The Dragons and Crusaders play again Tuesday.
