Sun Belt: Louisiana-Monroe upset bid falls short
Freshman backup quarterback Kyle Allen threw for 106 yards and a touchdown in his first career start and the Texas A&M Aggies (6-3) held on for a 21-16 nonconference win over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (4-4) on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
Allen started in place of Kenny Hill, who was suspended for two games for violating team rules.
Louisiana-Lafayette 19, South Alabama 9: Elijah McGuire rushed for 116 yards and a TD – with 5:01 left in the game – to help the Ragin’ Cajuns (5-3, 4-0) hold off the Jaguars (5-3, 4-2) in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Texas State 37, New Mexico State 29: Robert Lowe rushed for two TDs, Terrence Franks blocked a punt and returned it for a TD and the Bobcats (5-3, 3-1) beat the Aggies (2-7, 1-4) in Las Cruces, New Mexico, despite surrendering 639 yards of offense and 32 first downs.
Appalachian State 44, Georgia State 0: Marcus Cox ran for a career-high 250 yards and three TDs and the Mountaineers (3-5, 2-2) held the Panthers (1-8, 0-6) to 62 yards of offense in a victory in Boone, North Carolina.
