Top 25: No. 4 Auburn beats No. 7 Mississippi on overturned call

Cassanova McKinzy recovered a fumble in the end zone to preserve No. 4 Auburn’s 35-31 victory over No. 7 Mississippi on Saturday night in Oxford, Mississippi. The Tigers (7-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) got a reprieve after Rebels receiver Laquon Treadwell lost the ball at the end of a tackle-breaking catch-and-run to the end zone with 1:30 left. It was ruled a touchdown, but the replay official determined that he lost the ball before crossing the goal line.

McKinzy dove on it, deflating the Ole Miss crowd enjoying the best start since 1990 for the Rebels (7-2, 4-2).

(1) Mississippi State 17, Arkansas 10: Dak Prescott threw for a career-high 331 yards and a TD to help the Bulldogs (8-0, 5-0 SEC) hold off the Razorbacks (4-5, 0-5) in Starkville, Mississippi.

Mississippi State trailed until the third quarter and didn’t take the lead until Prescott’s 69-yard TD pass to Fred Ross made it 17-10 with 13:21 left.

(6) Notre Dame 49, Navy 39: Everett Golson threw three TD passes and ran for three scores to propel the Fighting Irish (7-1) to a hard-fought victory over the Midshipmen (4-5) in Landover, Maryland.

Navy scored 24 straight points to lead 31-28 with 4 minutes left in the third quarter, but Golson’s 3-yard TD run and a 25-yard scoring run by Tarean Folston put Notre Dame back in control.

Florida 38, (9) Georgia 20: Matt Jones rushed for 197 yards and two TDs and Kelvin Taylor ran for 192 yards and two scores as the Gators (4-3, 3-3 SEC) upset the Bulldogs (6-2, 4-2) in Jacksonville, Florida, ending a three-game losing streak in the series.

(10) TCU 31, (20) West Virginia 30: Jaden Oberkrom kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Horned Frogs (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) over the Mountaineers (6-3, 4-2) in Morgantown, West Virginia.

(11) Kansas State 48, Oklahoma State 14: Jake Waters threw two TD passes, Charles Jones ran for a pair of scores and the Wildcats (7-1, 5-0 Big 12) routed the slumping Cowboys (5-4, 3-3) in Manhattan, Kansas.

(12) Baylor 60, Kansas 14: Bryce Petty had three TD passes, including two to Corey Coleman, and the Bears (7-1, 3-1 Big 12) scored on 11 straight possessions in a victory over the Jayhawks (2-6, 0-5) in Waco, Texas.

(13) Ohio State 55, Illinois 14: Curtis Samuel ran for two TDs and J.T. Barrett hit Devin Smith on two scoring passes – all in the first half – and the Buckeyes (7-1, 4-0 Big Ten) roughed up the Illini (4-5, 1-4) in Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio State extended its conference win streak to a record-tying 20.

(17) Nebraska 35, Purdue 14: Imani Cross ran for two short TDs after Heisman Trophy hopeful Ameer Abdullah left the game with a left knee sprain, and the Cornhuskers (8-1, 4-1 Big Ten) beat the Boilermakers (3-6, 1-4) in Lincoln, Nebraska, to take sole possession of first in the West Division.

(19) Oklahoma 59, Iowa State 14: Trevor Knight became the first FBS player this season to throw three TD passes and rush for three scores in a game as the Sooners (6-2, 3-2 Big 12) trounced the Cyclones (2-6, 0-5) in Ames, Iowa, for the 43rd time in the last 45 games of the series.

Temple 20, (21) East Carolina 10: Kenny Harper rushed for two TDs and the Owls (5-3, 3-2 American Athletic Conference) forced five fumbles in an upset of the Pirates (6-2, 3-1) in Philadelphia. It was Temple’s first win over a ranked opponent since 1998.

(24) Duke 51, Pittsburgh 48 (2OT): Backup quarterback Thomas Sirk bulled into the end zone from 5 yards in the second overtime to lift the Blue Devils (7-1, 3-1 ACC) over the Panthers (4-5, 2-3) in Pittsburgh.

James Conner ran for 263 yards and three TDs for Pittsburgh, but didn’t touch the ball in the second overtime.
