Lake City on top in final power rankings

It was doubtful any team was going to unseat Lake City in the final NWPrepsNow Power Rankings. Lake City had a first-round bye in the Idaho 5A state playoffs, and the Timberwolves (8-1) finish atop the poll with 56 points. “Even with the bye week they’re still arguably the best in our area,” SWX sports anchor John Collett said. “The Timberwolves earn a first-round bye and are now poised to roll in the Idaho 5A quarterfinals,” SWX sports anchor Sam Adams said. “Lake City will need more big plays from Jerry Louie-McGee in the playoffs, and I expect a few in the week to come.” Two-time defending Washington 2B state champ Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (9-0) is second. The Broncos, playing without three two-way starters who were at a national conference, held off Colfax 27-25 in a regular-season finale. “Even though they haven’t been as dominating as they were last year, this team still knows how to win the close games,” EWU and high school radio play-by-play broadcaster Larry Weir said. Colville (9-0) is third with 40 points. “The Indians finished off a perfect regular season Friday, cementing their place near the top of the power rankings,” SWX producer Neil Stover said. “What an impressive season for a Colville team that flew under the radar until knocking off defending state champion Freeman.” Rounding out the final rankings are Gonzaga Prep (8-1) with 23 points, Freeman (8-1) with 15 and Coeur d’Alene (6-3) with 11.
