Obituary: Richmond, August C. “Gus”

RICHMOND,
August C. “Gus”
(Age 81)

Gus surprised his family and friends when he quietly passed away at his home on Friday, September 19, 2014.

His wife Gloria preceded him on May 4, 2014.

Gus grew up in Spokane, the youngest of 10 kids.

He served in the Army and Navy, and was awarded the “Expert Marksman” badge.

Like his father he worked at Kaiser Mead, where he was promoted to a management position, and where he later retired.

Gus was a man of wide and varied interests including: street and dirt bikes, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, cowboy/black powder shooting, cycling (He designed and made his own bicycles), camping, travelling, sailing, dune buggies, canning, meat smoking, photography, craftsman, woodworker, and master welder.

He was a member of the Spokane and Mica Gun Clubs, and the Single Action Shooting Society.

He could fix almost anything.

In addition to his neighbors, who kept an eye on him, Gus is survived by Mike Richmond (Kris), daughters Patty Cole (Rob), and Kathy Gossett (Butch).

He is also missed by his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A small family service took place in September, 2014, at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA.

Gus had a twinkle in his eyes, and was quick with a laugh.

He left us smiling.
