In brief: Tree-planting party planned Saturday

SOUTH HILL – The Lincoln Heights neighborhood has won a city grant to pay for planting 25 trees. A planting event is set for 10 a.m. Saturday with volunteers gathering at 35th Avenue and Freya Street.

The greening neighborhoods grant program is part of an effort to plant 10,000 new trees in the city by 2016.

Volunteers on Saturday should bring a garden rake and pitchfork, if possible. Along with trees, the neighborhood also has spring-flowering bulbs for fall planting.
