Prep football play-in roundup: Lind-Ritzville/Sprague advances to state

Thanks primarily to its defense, two-time defending State 2B champion Lind-Ritzville/Sprague will be making a return trip to the state playoffs.

The Broncos (10-0) intercepted three passes, one of which went for a touchdown, and beat visiting Wilbur-Creston 23-6 in a 2B play-in game Friday night.

Cort Ruzicka scored twice – one receiving and one rushing – and Dallas Killian’s pick-6 in the third quarter put LRS on top for good.

The State 2B playoffs start next Friday and Saturday. Wilbur-Creston (4-6) was eliminated.

Reardan 34, Colfax 14: Led by the rushing attack of Dan Peone and Zach Wynecoop, the Indians (9-1) claimed a 2B playoff spot with a win over the visiting Bulldogs (6-4).

Peone ran for 247 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and Wynecoop racked up 151 yards and three scores on 13 carries.

The Bulldogs were eliminated.

Waitsburg-Prescott 62, Liberty 24: The Cardinals jumped out to a 48-10 halftime lead and eased past the visiting Lancers (5-5) in a 2B play-in game.

Liberty’s Match Burnham passed for 280 yards and three touchdowns, but the Lancers were eliminated.

Davenport 48, Tri-Cities Prep 14: The Gorillas (8-2) claimed a spot in the State 2B playoffs next weekend with a win over the Jaguars in Pasco.

Tri-Cities Prep was eliminated.

Republic 76, Odessa-Harrington 14: After a tight first quarter, the Tigers (9-1) exploded for 38 second-quarter points and dumped the Titans (8-2) in Odessa.

Aaron Fritts threw for two scores and rushed for two more as Republic claimed District 7’s top seed to next weekend’s state playoffs. The Tigers will play Pomeroy in the first round.

Odessa-Harrington has the second seed and will play Garfield-Palouse next weekend.

Cusick 58, Entiat 44: Spirit White threw four touchdown passes – three of which went to Alex Bluff – and the Panthers (9-1) claimed the Northeast 1B’s third seed to the state playoffs with a win over the visiting Tigers.

Bluff also scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 60-yarder in the first quarter.

Cusick will play Touchet next weekend in the first round of the State 1B playoffs. Entiat, the District 7 fourth seed, will play Liberty Christian.
