GU men triumph 1-0 in two OTs
Zach Hamer scored an unassisted goal in the second overtime to lift the Gonzaga men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Pacific in Spokane.
Hamer’s shot was the 34th of the match for the Bulldogs (4-12-1, 2-3-1 West Coast Conference), the most for Gonzaga since 1999.
The Bulldogs had a 34-9 edge in shots over the Tigers (3-13-0, 1-4-0).
• Third-ranked Washington (12-4-1, 5-3-1) scored three first-half goals and held on for a 3-2 win over No. 7 Cal (10-5-1, 4-4-1) in Berkeley, California.
UW trails first-place Stanford by two points in the conference standings and UCLA by one.
Volleyball
Kyra Holt had a season-high 23 kills and added 12 digs but Washington State (10-16, 1-13) lost 25-18, 17-25, 25-21, 25-19 to 11th-ranked Oregon (18-6, 8-6) in Pullman.
Haley MacDonald added 44 assists and 10 digs, Chelsey Bettinson 10 kills and Kate Sommer 14 digs for the Cougars.
• Second-ranked and unbeaten Washington (25-0, 14-0 Pac-12) swept Oregon State 25-17, 25-15, 25-15 in Seattle, moving back into a tie for first place with No. 1 Stanford.
The Huskies held the Beavers (16-9, 6-8) to .124 hitting. Krista Vansant led the Huskies with 16 kills and 14 digs for her 45th career double-double.
Golf
The Gonzaga men’s team completed its fall schedule with an eighth-place finish at 19-over at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic in Lahaina, Hawaii.
James Fahy led the Bulldogs at Ka’anapali Golf Course with a 21st-place finish at 2-over 215.
Oregon won the 13-team tournament with a three-round total of 33 under.
Oregon’s Aaron Wise defeated MJ Maguire of North Florida on the first playoff hole for the individual championship after they tied in regulation at 10 under.
Whitworth
The Whitworth volleyball and men’s soccer teams will find out today when and where they will play in their respective Division III tournaments.
The volleyball team claimed a share of the Northwest Conference championship with Pacific Lutheran and holds the tiebreaker over the Lutes for the automatic bid.
The men’s soccer team clinched the conference championship with a 3-0 win at Whitman on Saturday.
The volleyball selection show is scheduled for 8 a.m. and the men’s soccer selection show at 10:30 a.m.
