Ice on roads leads to early morning collisions

Slick roads led to about a dozen vehicle crashes early Monday across Spokane County, as the area saw its first icy morning of the season. Police spokeswoman Ofc. Teresa Fuller said at least 10 of those collisions were single-vehicle, and ice was likely a contributing factor in most. Collisions occurred around the area on both highways and surface streets. Fuller said she was not aware of any serious injuries. Fuller cautioned drivers to allow extra time for travel and look out for black ice on the roads. Even on days where the temperature is above freezing, shady spots on the road are likely to still be icy. The Washington State Patrol encourages drivers to slow down, increase following distance and avoid unnecessary lane changes in icy conditions.
