Liberty Lake Road, Albertsons at 13606 E. 32nd Ave., Trading Company at 13014 E. Sprague and Rosauers at 10618 E. Sprague.

Students from University High School will unload the buses at the food bank at the end of the day.

Newport man killed in one-vehicle crash

A 65-year-old Newport resident died Friday after his pickup struck a tree in Pend Oreille County, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The man, whose name was not released, was driving north on Deeter Road north of Deer Valley Road about 5 p.m. when his 2012 Chevy Colorado left the road at a curve and struck a tree about 11 miles west of Newport, the WSP said.

WSP said the crash was caused by speeding.

Pedestrian struck, injured downtown

A pedestrian was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a truck at Sprague Avenue and Browne Street on Friday.

The man was hit around 1:20 p.m. Friday and the truck left the scene. The driver later returned and was questioned by investigators, said Spokane police spokeswoman Officer Teresa Fuller.

The pedestrian was later reported to be in stable condition. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian and no valid driver’s license. The victim requested that the driver not be charged with hit and run, police said.

Ethics panel will weigh Stuckart email forward

Spokane’s Ethics Committee next week will consider potential misconduct by City Council President Ben Stuckart.

Stuckart forwarded an emailed legal memo from the city’s legal staff that was marked “ATTORNEY-CLIENT PRIVILEGED” to the president of the city fire union, which was the city’s opponent in the case handled in the memo.

The issue was sent on to the ethics committee by City Attorney Nancy Isserlis late last month. Stuckart has apologized for forwarding the memo.

The Ethics Committee will consider the issue at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Spokane City Hall.
