People: Little Leaguer Davis writing her memoir

From Wire Reports

A memoir when you’re still a teenager may seem premature, but not for Mo’ne Davis, the first female pitcher to win a Little League World Series game. “Mo’ne Davis: Remember My Name” will be released next March by HarperCollins Children’s Books.

The honor roll student from Philadelphia became a sensation last summer after leading the Taney Dragons to a 4-0 victory over Nashville when she was just 13. Known for her long braids and uncommon poise, she has since appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, thrown out the first pitch at a major league World Series game and starred in a car commercial directed by Spike Lee.

Author Hilary Beard, whose previous collaborations include “Promises Kept: Raising Black Boys to Succeed in School and in Life,” will assist Davis and has already begun interviewing her.

‘Pastafarian’ headgear OK on license

A Utah woman said she encountered only brief resistance when she recently had her driver’s license photo taken while wearing a colander on her head as a religious statement.

Asia Lemmon said the pasta strainer represents her beliefs in the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. The Flying Spaghetti Monster movement, also known as “Pastafarianism,” started in 2005 as a protest against teaching intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in Kansas schools.

Nannette Rolfe, the director of Utah’s Driver License Division, said about a dozen Pastafarians have had their state driver’s license photos taken with a similar colander or pasta strainer on their heads in recent years.

Lemmon, a St. George, Utah, resident, is a former porn star who performed under the name Asia Carrera.

‘Days’ actor charged after car crash

Soap opera actor Freddie Smith has been charged with felony vehicular assault and misdemeanor driving under the influence after a single-vehicle crash in northeast Ohio that injured his girlfriend.

The 26-year-old “Days of Our Lives” actor lost control of his car on a curve in Ashtabula County on Oct. 7 and ended up in a culvert, causing his car to flip over. Authorities say Smith, who was visiting his Ohio hometown, was legally drunk at the time of the accident, with a blood-alcohol level of 0.093.

Twenty-seven-year-old actress Alyssa Tabit, of North Hollywood, California, was trapped in the car and was seriously hurt. She is recovering. Smith suffered minor injuries.
