Gonzaga, St. Joseph’s tip off at MAC
Gonzaga’s busy early-season schedule continues when Saint Joseph’s visits the McCarthey Athletic Center tonight at 8.
The Hawks (1-1) lost three key seniors from last year’s 24-10 squad that captured the Atlantic 10 tournament title and fell to eventual national champion Connecticut in overtime in the NCAA tournament.
Forward DeAndre’ Bembry (10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds) and guard Chris Wilson (6 ppg, 4.5 rpg) are returning starters. Junior forward Isaiah Miles is averaging 8.5 points and 11 rebounds. The Hawks dropped their opener to Fairleigh Dickinson, 58-57, despite winning the boards 44-28. They edged Drexel 52-49 behind Bembry’s 13 points and eight rebounds.
“Hard-nosed team. They have a lot of like-sized guys that can come after you in a lot of different ways,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. “It’ll be full-court pressure probably from the jump.”
