In brief: Colbert man hurt in rollover crash

A Colbert man was critically injured late Monday in a rollover crash near Cheney.

Brandon Michael Morris, 23, of Colbert, was driving a 1985 Oldsmobile Calais on state Route 904 6 miles west of Cheney just after 9 p.m. when his car left the road, hit a rock wall and rolled back into the westbound lane, the Washington State Patrol reported in a news release.

He was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center with injuries and was listed in critical condition Tuesday.

The collision was caused by speed, WSP said. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. Morris was not wearing a seat belt, the WSP said.

Doctor’s child porn trial pushed to April

The trial for a suspended ER physician at the Spokane Veterans Affairs hospital has been pushed to April.

Craig Morgenstern, 45, remains in custody of the Spokane County Jail, facing a nine-count federal criminal indictment that charges him with producing child pornography, aggravated sexual abuse of a child and traveling across state lines to sexually abuse children. Morgenstern was originally jailed last month after a 13-year-old left the physician’s Nine Mile Falls home and told a neighbor he’d awoken to the 45-year-old abusing him.

A subsequent search of Morgenstern’s home – and a damaged laptop the physician allegedly deposited in a dumpster on his way to the Stevens County Jail – has revealed evidence of multiple children being victimized by Morgenstern, according to court documents. Federal prosecutors indicated Tuesday they continue to comb through electronic files and a superseding indictment with additional charges will likely be filed.

A trial in the case had been tentatively scheduled for January.

TACOMA – The Pierce County sheriff’s office said a 58-year-old man killed his 6-year-old daughter and then committed suicide on Tuesday.

The News-Tribune reports the family was scheduled to be evicted from their apartment Tuesday. When neighbors noticed the man’s SUV was still in the parking lot, they knocked on the door and no one answered. Then they called the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said a neighbor told deputies that the man was suicidal Monday night.

Deputies found the girl dead in her bed and the father elsewhere in the apartment. It was not immediately clear how the girl died but Troyer said the father hanged himself and slit his wrists.

The man and girl have not been identified.
