In brief: Grizzlies snap Blazers 9-game streak

NBA: Marc Gasol had 26 points and nine assists and visiting Memphis held off Portland 112-99, snapping the Blazers’ nine-game winning streak.

Mike Conley added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have lost just two of 16 games this season for the NBA’s best record. Memphis is undefeated against conference foes this season.

Wesley Matthews scored 26 for the Blazers and LaMarcus Aldridge added 19 points and 10 rebounds.

• Butler, Rose carry Bulls past Celtics: Jimmy Butler hit four free throws late in the game and finished with 22 points, Derrick Rose had 21 and Chicago pulled out a 109-102 road win over Boston.

Pau Gasol had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Bulls. Boston has lost six of seven.

Jared Sullinger led Boston with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

• Speights leads Warriors over Hornets: Marreese Speights had 27 points and Golden State defeated host Charlotte 106-101 for its eighth straight win.

Stephen Curry finished with 26 points despite shooting 1 for 10 from 3-point range, and Klay Thompson added 17 for the Warriors.

Brian Roberts scored 20 points for the Hornets, who have lost eight straight games.

• Teague leads Hawks past Pelicans: Jeff Teague scored 26 points, DeMarre Carroll added 19 and Atlanta held off visiting New Orleans 100-91.

Ryan Anderson and Jrue Holiday both had 20 for New Orleans.

Paul Millsap had 13 points and nine rebounds for Atlanta.

• Ellis scores 30 points, Mavs beat Raptors: Monta Ellis scored 30 points and Tyson Chandler had 11 points and 10 rebounds and visiting Dallas won for the eighth time in 10 games, beating Toronto 106-102.

Chandler Parsons scored 16 points as the Mavericks snapped Toronto’s winning streak at six games.

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle won his 300th game with Dallas.

Kyle Lowry scored 25 points for the Raptors.

• Illyasova, Dudley lead Bucks beat Pistons: Ersan Ilyasova scored 22 points and Jared Dudley added 16 and visiting Milwaukee beat slumping Detroit 104-88.

Milwaukee got 69 points off the bench to hand Detroit its seventh straight loss.

Andre Drummond led Detroit with 26 points and 20 rebounds.

• Westbrook scores 32 in return; Thunder beat Knicks: Russell Westbrook scored 32 points in his first game back from a broken hand, and the Thunder rolled past the visiting Knicks 105-78.

Westbrook had not played since being injured in the second game of the season. He went 12 of 17, including 3 of 4 3-pointers, and added eight assists and seven rebounds.

Amare Stoudemire had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Knicks. Carmelo Anthony missed his second straight game with back spasms.

Clippers beat Rockets: Blake Griffin had 30 points and 10 rebounds and Jamal Crawford added 21 points to help visiting Los Angeles beat injury-depleted Houston 102-85.

The Rockets were playing their fifth straight game without Dwight Howard (knee strain).

James Harden had 16 points to lead Houston. Chris Paul had 10 points and seven assists for the Clippers (10-5).

• Stuckey leads Pacers over Magic: Rodney Stuckey scored a season-high 24 points to lead Indiana over visiting Orlando 98-83.

The Pacers handed the Magic their fourth straight loss.

Nikola Vucevic led Orlando with 16 points.

• Spurs top Kings: San Antonio shot 51.2 percent and made 12 three pointers in a 112-104 home victory over Sacramento.

Rudy Gay led the Kings with 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists after missing the last two games with injury.

Tony Parker led the Spurs to their sixth straight win with 27 points and eight assists.

Suns beat Nuggets: Gerald Green scored 24 points and Eric Bledsoe had 21 to lead Phoenix over visiting Denver 120-112.

Green made 6 of 11 3-pointers and the Suns won for the fifth time in six games. Goran Dragic added 20 points for Phoenix, which ended Denver’s five-game winning streak.

Timofey Mozgov led the Nuggets with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

• Timberwolves top Lakers: Rookie guard Zach LaVine scored 18 of his team-high 28 points off the bench in the second quarter, and Mo Williams had 25 points and 11 assists to lead Minnesota over host Los Angeles. Kobe Bryant missed a 3-pointer as time expired that helped seal the win for Minnesota.

Bryant finished with 26 points on 10 for 18 shooting and Nick Young scored 13 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter for the Lakers.

The Timberwolves snapped a three-game losing streak.

Texans’ Clowney out against Titans

NFL: No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney will miss Houston’s game against Tennessee on Sunday after a setback on his surgically repaired right knee.

He experienced swelling in his knee after last week’s game and didn’t practice all week.

Clowney has played just four games this season.

• Titans deal with injuries: The Tennessee Titans could enter Sunday’s game at Houston without either of their starting offensive tackles.

Neither Taylor Lewan nor Michael Oher has practiced all week. They’re listed as questionable on the Titans’ injury report, and Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt says both will be game-time decisions.

• Fitzgerald limited in practice, game-time decision: Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald practiced on a limited basis and Arizona coach Bruce Arians says the eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver’s participation will be a game-time decision Sunday.

Texas A&M cuts ties with DC Snyder

College Football: Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder was fired one day after the Aggies allowed 491 yards in a regular-season ending loss to LSU.

Snyder had been at Texas A&M since coach Kevin Sumlin was hired at the school in 2012.

Linebackers coach Mark Hagan will be A&M’s interim defensive coordinator for the team’s bowl game.

A’s trade Donaldson to Blue Jays

MLB: Oakland traded All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson to the Toronto Blue Jays for third baseman Brett Lawrie, left-hander Sean Nolin, right-hander Kendall Graveman and minor league shortstop Franklin Barreto.

The 28-year-old Donaldson hit .255 with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs in 158 games last season.

Lawrie batted .247 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in 70 games for Toronto last season.

Royals trade Crow: Former first-round draft pick Aaron Crow was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Miami Marlins for left-hander Brian Flynn and right-hander Reid Redman.

In another move, Jason Frasor and the Royals agreed to a one-year contract with a 2016 mutual option.

UNC women upset Stanford

Women’s Basketball: Latifah Coleman scored 19 points and Xylina McDaniel added 15 to help No. 11 North Carolina upset fifth-ranked Stanford 70-54 in an opening-round game of the Rainbow Wahine Shootout.

Stephanie Mavunga added 10 points for the Tar Heels, who avenged a nine-point loss to the Cardinal in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament last April.
