People: ‘Real Housewives’ star is sentenced

“Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Teresa Giudice was sentenced Thursday to 15 months in prison, followed by two years’ supervised probation, for her part in a bankruptcy and mortgage fraud scheme. She also must pay $414,588 in restitution.
She and her husband, Joe Giudice, left the courthouse hand-in-hand shortly after 5 p.m. Teresa Giudice appeared to be crying.
Earlier Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas sentenced Joe Giudice to 41 months in the scheme and ordered him to pay restitution of $414,588.
Salas ruled Teresa Giudice will serve her sentence before her husband. She must surrender Jan. 5, allowing her to spend the holidays with her family.
Ford taking cancer fight ‘day to day’
Toronto’s embattled Mayor Rob Ford says doctors have told him there’s a 50/50 survival rate for the rare and aggressive form of cancer he has been diagnosed with.
Ford said Thursday that he always “sees the glass as half full” and is taking it “day to day” as he battles malignant liposarcoma, which he was diagnosed with last month.
Ford has refused to step down as mayor despite months of scandal and an admission he used crack cocaine while in a “drunken stupor.”
But he bowed out of the race for re-election on Oct. 27 after doctors detected a tumor in his abdomen. Ford is still running for a seat on the city council. The mayor’s brother, Doug, entered the race to replace him.
Police probe report of Sheen scuffle
Los Angeles police are looking into reports that actor Charlie Sheen was involved in a scuffle with a dental assistant last week.
Few details have been released about the incident, which allegedly occurred Sept. 25 at an unidentified dentist’s office, LAPD Officer Chris No said.
Sheen and the dental assistant reportedly got into an argument and then a tussle, No said.
Police plan to interview Sheen, his bodyguard and employees at the dentist’s office to sort out what happened, No added.
Los Angeles police could not immediately confirm reports, initially carried by TMZ, that Sheen, who now stars in the FX show “Anger Management,” was under the influence of drugs and pulled a knife on the assistant.
Sheen’s publicist, Jeff Ballard, denied the allegations. Nitrous oxide administered to the actor during a procedure reacted negatively with medication Sheen was taking to treat a shoulder injury he sustained while filming the 1989 film “Major League,” Ballard said.
