Wild Day/Thursday — 10.9.14

I burned through another work laptop yesterday when the one I use at home was damaged in shipment to the Spokane office for some TLC. I wonder how many computers and upgrades that I’ve gone through in my 44 years in the news biz. I was first introduced to them at Kalispell, Mont. It wasn’t unusual for the system to crash a half dozen times a morning in the Daily Inter Lake newsroom, circa 1980. I still remember our composing room manager walking into the room with the massive centralized computer, carrying a (wait for it) — wrench. I appreciate the fact that I can send my laptop to our terrific techs downtown for TLC and upgrades. We’ve come a long way from dial-up. Now for today’s Wild Card …
