Party agendas rule

A recent letter to the editor suggested that we should vote incumbents out of office because they have done nothing to represent our interests. The letter goes on to suggest that we vote new people in and give them a chance.

While I understand the frustration with the lack of representation, this perspective brought the tea party folks into office in the 2010 elections, resulting in gridlock, government shutdowns and a position of no compromise in their decisions. Unfortunately, with big money now controlling politicians and agendas, party majorities control what does or does not get done.

Individual politicians first follow their party’s agenda rather than represent our interests, as we have seen with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers. Party agendas rule.

I suggest that rather than simply voting out incumbents, we, as voters, read and understand which party’s agenda best represents our individual interests and vote for those who support that agenda regardless of our party affiliation. Hopefully, the individuals that represent the party agenda you support will remain or become the majority and finally move things forward.
