Obituary: Sanford, Gerry Noel
Age 89
He went to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ the Almighty God, and be reunited with his beautiful wife Eunice.
Gerry was born in Colville Washington, December 10, 1924 to Gwen and Allyn Sanford.
At the young age of 19, in service to his Country, he joined the Army during World War II.
He was assigned to the 526th Infantry Battalion, fighting in areas around Europe.
He ended his enlistment at the historic Battle of the Bulge in Belgium.
In 1950 he met and married Eunice Mae Cammack his love for 63 years.
They had a short honeymoon before he was shipped off to the Korean War.
It was in Korea where Gerry learned his trade of building bridges.
Dad would tell us, no sooner did they build a bridge over a river, and the enemy would blow it up.
Gerry’s longtime career was with the Washington State Highway Department.
He was part of the team that built bridges throughout Washington.
Gerry and Eunice purchased their first home on Wellen Lane in the Whitworth area.
It was there that daughters Beverly and Barbara were born.
The family moved out on the Little Spokane River, where they hosted gatherings for beloved family and friends.
Gerry always made sure the grounds were well groomed and the pool was the perfect temperature.
He spear-headed numerous trips to Pine River Park picking up “inner-tubers” who had floated from the Sanford River Retreat to the park.
Most of all he loved his family vacations, whether it was a week at Priest Lake, Fairmont Hot Springs (visiting his brother), Hawaii or a cruise ship sailing the ocean.
He always maintained his golf swing in case his two nephews Rich and Greg were up to the challenge.
Gerry loved his Lord Jesus Christ and was so thankful to be part of the Crossover Church family.
He was loved by many and his generous, gentle, humble ways will be greatly missed.
Gerry is survived by his daughters Barbara Sanford, Beverly (Phil) Chaney, nephews Rich (Fran) Sanford, Greg (Eugenie) Sanford and great-nephews Joshua, Lance and Brandon.
He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Eunice and brother Kirk Sanford.
No memorial will be held at Gerry’s request.
