Prep roundup: Gonzaga Prep volleyball outlasts Mead

Tess Beschel finished with 46 assists Tuesday as Gonzaga Prep outlasted Mead 25-22, 18-25, 27-25, 17-25, 15-9 in Greater Spokane League volleyball at Mead.

The Bullpups improved to 4-1 in league and tied with Lewis and Clark for third place, one behind University and Central Valley.

Rachael Meyer and Patience O’Neal combined for 23 kills for G-Prep, which has only lost to U-Hi in league play. Audrey Hanger added 18 digs.

Payton Douglass recorded 38 digs and two aces and Hannah Absalonson totaled 25 assists for Mead (3-2), which dropped to fifth place. Both of Mead’s league losses – the other to CV – have gone five games.

Elsewhere in the GSL, Arianna Newcomb had 15 kills and Bailey Hereford added 27 digs as Mt. Spokane (2-3) handed visiting LC its first league loss with a 3-1 win. The Wildcats have a one-game lead over Shadle Park among 3A schools. Laina Damon had 12 kills for the Tigers, who host U-Hi on Thursday. … Sydney Schlect had seven kills and sister Rachael Schlect added five blocks as University (5-0) swept visiting Shadle Park 3-0. Randie Dewey led the Highlanders (1-4) with five kills and two aces. … Kazlyn Roullier had seven kills and Jade Rockwood added 15 assists and nine aces while leading Central Valley (5-0) to a 3-0 win over visiting Rogers (0-5). … Haley Carl had a team-high 24 kills as Ferris (1-4) outlasted visiting North Central 25-23, 25-22, 13-25, 21-25, 15-11. Megan Dean had 12 kills and three blocks for the Indians (0-5).

• Kayla Lemelin had 11 kills and Rylee Pease totaled four aces and 12 digs as Cheney (4-5 Great Northern League) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to edge visiting Pullman 3-2. Lizzie George had 12 kills and five blocks for the Greyhounds (5-3), who dropped three games behind first-place East Valley. … Elsewhere, Jordan Phelan recorded 18 kills and four aces as EV (8-0) registered a 3-1 win at Clarkston. EV’s Brooklyn Juris added 21 digs. Tori Zeimantz led the Bantams (3-6) with eight kills.

• Lewiston improved to 5-1 in Inland Empire League 5A play with a 3-0 win at Post Falls. Amanda Westlake led the Trojans (0-5) with 10 digs and nine kills.

• Katelyn Summers totaled 13 kills and five blocks and Mollie French added 21 digs as Priest River (1-4 Intermountain League) held off host Timberlake 3-2 at Spirit Lake. Jacquelyn Mallet had 13 kills for the Tigers (1-4), who defeated Priest River 3-2 three weeks ago.

Girls soccer

Shannon Frucci scored on a penalty kick in the fifth minute of overtime as East Valley (7-2, 6-2 Great Northern League) posted a 1-0 win at Clarkston (8-3, 5-3) to snap a second-place tie in the league. West Valley, which was idle, leads the way at 7-1. … Also in the league, Kendyl Cone scored all four goals as host Cheney (2-10, 2-6) posted a 4-1 win over Pullman (0-11, 0-8).
