Area roundup: Vandals volleyball notches fourth consecutive win

Becca Mau had 10 kills and Katelyn Peterson added nine kills and 14 digs Thursday as the Idaho volleyball team ran its winning streak to four matches with a 25-21, 25-22, 28-26 Big Sky Conference win over Weber State in Moscow, Idaho.

The Vandals haven’t dropped a set in their past four matches.

Idaho’s Meredith Coba added 38 assists. The Vandals (11-10, 7-2) will look to make it five in a row Saturday at home against Idaho State.

Weber State fell to 6-17 overall and 2-7 in the Big Sky.

• Tressa Lyman had 13 kills and Amy Sorensen added 12 kills and 12 digs as visiting Idaho State (14-8, 8-1 Big Sky) swept Eastern Washington (8-14, 4-5) at Reese Court. Scores were 25-19, 25-20 and 25-22.

Eastern Washington’s Talia Fermantez and Kellen Barfield combined for 21 kills and Melissa Waelter had 15 digs.

The Eagles host Weber State on Saturday.

Men’s soccer

Seyi Adekoya scored in the 54th minute to break a 1-all tie and No. 6 UCLA (9-3-3, 4-1-1) held on to beat No. 4 Washington 2-1 in a Pac-12 Conference match in Seattle.

The Huskies (10-3-1, 3-2-1) held a commanding 21-8 shot advantage but couldn’t capitalize.

Rodeo

Spring Planting of the Flying 5 Rodeo Company was second in voting for Saddle Bronc of the Year.

Medicine Woman won for the second time after the vote by the top bronc riders in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

Runner-up last year, Spring Planting is part of the string belonging to Don Hutsell of Ritzville and Sonny Riley of Pomeroy.

Spring Planting, a descent of Spring Fling, also won the award in 2009. Spring Fling, also owned by Hutsell and Riley but part of their Big Bend Rodeo Co., won the bareback title in 1997 and saddle bronc award in 1999 and 2000.
