People: Corden will become ‘Late Late Show’ host

From Wire Reports

CBS has set March 9 for the debut of James Corden as host of “The Late Late Show.”

Corden is replacing Craig Ferguson, who after a decade in the host chair exits Dec. 18. The show will continue to originate from Los Angeles.

Corden, a 36-year-old British star, won a Tony Award in 2012 for his role in the play “One Man, Two Guvnors” and appeared in the recent film “Begin Again” with Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. He hosts a sports-oriented game show in Britain, and also acts in and writes the BBC series “The Wrong Mans.”

His arrival is part of CBS’s late-night overhaul, which also next year will see David Letterman depart “Late Show” (which airs an hour earlier), to be replaced by Stephen Colbert.

Knightley to debut on Broadway

Keira Knightley will make her Broadway debut next year as a beautiful but doomed heroine.

The Roundabout Theatre Co. said Thursday that Knightley will star in “Therese Raquin,” a stage adaptation of the Emile Zola novel. It will be directed by Evan Cabnet and begin previews on Oct 1.

Knightley made her West End debut in 2009 in the comedy “The Misanthrope” and two years later starred in Lillian Hellman’s “The Children’s Hour.”

“Therese Raquin,” written in 1867, is about a woman trapped in a loveless marriage who embarks on an illicit affair with a friend of her husband’s. The story has been adapted into a 1953 film starring Simone Signoret and another last year starring Elizabeth Olsen.

‘The Situation’ situated for trial

A judge has scheduled a December trial for a former cast member of MTV’s reality show “Jersey Shore” who’s facing federal tax charges.

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and his brother, Marc, appeared in court Thursday in Newark, New Jersey. The judge set their trial for Dec. 2.

They were charged last month with filing bogus tax returns and inflating business expenses to avoid paying taxes on nearly $9 million in income over a three-year period. They have pleaded not guilty.

Mike Sorrentino was initially scheduled for arraignment two weeks ago but was given an extension because he was filming another reality show in Los Angeles.

Sorrentino’s attorney told the court he and his fiancee were scheduled to appear on the show “Marriage Boot Camp.”
