Love of animals is fake
Stravo Lukos (“Souls have hardened,” Oct. 5) writes, “Sometimes it appears that we care more for animals than we do our own.” I disagree. We don’t care about animals as much as we would like to think. We just pretend to.
If you don’t believe me, grab the Oct. 4 Spokesman-Review and reread the guest column “Industry wrong on animal cruelty.” Copy it, post it on your wall and really think about it. We love our own family pets, but we most likely bought them from cruel puppy mills. We totally hide from the cruelty in our food supply. We stay silent as Idaho lawmakers pass “ag gag” laws so we can shut our eyes and pretend the violence to animals isn’t happening.
We shouldn’t delude ourselves into believing we care about animals if we refuse to lift a hand to help them. Most of the time we don’t think of them at all. We just continue to eat them, wear them, breed them, experiment on them and abuse them for our entertainment.
