Young People (59 & Under) Don’t Vote
As someone who helps run elections in this state, I’m concerned about the future of voting in Idaho. We all should be. Young people don’t vote. Now you’re thinking, “I’ve heard this before.” But, when I refer to young people I mean anyone 59 or younger. Not just folks in the late teens and 20s. We made this unsettling discovery while looking at voter history to estimate turnout for the upcoming mid-term election on Nov. 4. Despite efforts to make voting more accessible, such as same-day registration, early voting, and easier access to absentee ballots, people are voting less. Some might point to controversial issues like voter ID and party registration as hurdles to voting, but when you look at the data, the trend away from voting began well before those issues ever surfaced/ Phil McGrain & Anthony Lock-Smith , Lewiston Tribune.
