Kristina Volz had nine kills and four blocks Thursday as Mead defeated visiting Lewis and Clark 25-11, 25-9, 25-22 in the first round of the District 8 4A volleyball tournament.
Hannah Absalonson added 16 assists and Payton Douglass 14 digs for the fourth-seeded Panthers.
Mary Stoa had 19 assists and nine digs and one ace for the fifth-seeded Tigers, who were eliminated.
District continues at 11 a.m. Saturday as Mead will play host and top-seeded Central Valley, and No. 2 University will meet No. 3 Gonzaga Prep. The first-game winners will qualify for regionals and meet in the title match at 2 p.m. Also at 2, the first-game losers will play for the third and final seed to regionals.
