Greg Lee and Sam Adams: Pick 6

Intro By Greg Lee The Spokesman-Review

Come on. Did you expect anything but a first-week victory by yours truly?

I finished fast and I’m starting fast.

KHQ/SWX sports director Sam Adams got off to a good start, correctly picking four of six games. I’m pleased, overjoyed, elated – fill in the superlative – to announce that I was better at 5-1. I wouldn’t mind batting .833 all fall.

By and large, it was a rough start for Greater Spokane League teams. The second week doesn’t appear to be much better.

Freeman at Pullman, 7

Lee: The Scotties rolled past Pullman last year. Freeman 42, Pullman 20.

Adams: The defending state champs annual “midnight lift” to start the year shows they are hungry. Freeman 35, Pullman 7.

Lakeland at East Valley, 7

Lee: The 2-0 Hawks had little difficulty dispatching Great Northern League favorite West Valley last week. Lakeland will continue to ride its momentum. Lakeland 31, EV 13.

Adams: Lakeland’s stingy defense has allowed 17 points combined to Lewiston and WV. I see a shutout or two on the schedule this year. Lakeland 30, EV 14.

Bellarmine Prep at G-Prep, 6

Lee: These programs are familiar with each other. The Bullpups had a marvelous start in a come-from-behind win last week. They will enjoy being at home. G-Prep 28, B-Prep 14.

Adams: The Bullpups are traditionally fast out of the gates with the veer offense. I failed to heed my words when I picked Richland to beat them last week. I won’t be fooled again. G-Prep 28, B-Prep 24.

University at Post Falls, 7

Lee: The Titans put me over the top last week. U-Hi 35, Post Falls 28.

Adams: Post Falls will protect its turf in its home opener. Post Falls 28, U-Hi 24.

Shadle Park at Richland, 7

Lee: My heart says Shadle, but my head says Richland. I’ll go with my heart. Shadle 27, Richland 24.

Adams: Before last week I would’ve gone with the Bombers on their home field. But now I like Shadle’s chances. Shadle 49, Richland 42.

CdA vs. Ferris, Albi, 8

Lee: Of all the matchups we’ve wanted to see in recent years, this is the marquee matchup. CdA has too much firepower for the Saxons to stop or counter. CdA 30, Ferris 21.

Adams: We’ve been screaming for this game back in the days of Halliday and Chalich, and we finally got it. I was thoroughly impressed with what the Vikings did against Central Valley. CdA 45, Ferris 28.
