Area roundup: Four-goal burst lifts WV over Cheney

Jenna Sullens scored an unassisted goal and added an assist and the West Valley Eagles scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 victory over the Cheney Blackhawks in Great Northern League girls soccer action on Tuesday in Cheney.

Kendyl Cone scored a goal in the first minute of the match for Cheney.

• Brooke Morrow had a goal and two assists and sisters Bailee and Taylen Wohl scored first-half goals to power the Clarkston Bantams to a 4-0 GNL victory over the visiting Pullman Greyhounds.

Inland Empire League: Emma Prall scored two goals – her first in the 6th minute and her second a game-winner in the 75th minute – to propel the Moscow Bears to a 2-1 victory over the host Lakeland Hawks.

Intermountain League: Carleen Simpson had a first-half assist and a second-half goal to spark the Timberlake Tigers to a 4-2 win over the visiting Priest River Spartans. Elizabeth Shuster and Shelby Starr each scored a goal to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead at halftime. Elisa Williams and Angel Clark scored in the second half as the Spartans twice pulled within a goal but couldn’t come up with the equalizer. Allison Kirby had the final Timberlake goal in injury time.

Boys soccer

Inland Empire League: Devin Kohles notched a pair of goals and Gunnar Skinlov chipped in with a goal and two assists to propel the Coeur d’Alene Vikings to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Post Falls Trojans.

• The Moscow Bears edged the visiting Lakeland Hawks 2-1 in IEL play. No details were available.

Intermountain League: Cody Bentley picked up an assist on the first goal of the match and then drilled back-to-back goals to lead the Timberlake Tigers to a 5-0 romp over the visiting Priest River Spartans. Tigers keeper Corbin Maltba tallied nine saves to earn the shutout.

Volleyball

Great Northern League: Lizzie George had 12 kills and six blocks and Halley Ghigleri added 22 assists to lead Pullman (2-1 league) to a 3-1 win at Clarkston (2-1). … Peyton Stark had a team-high nine assists as Cheney (1-2) registered a 3-0 sweep over visiting West Valley (0-4).

Inland Empire League 5A: Emilee Schlader had 22 kills, 23 digs and four aces as two-time defending state champion Lewiston (3-0 league) held on for a 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-10 win at Lake City (0-2). Natalie Taylor led the Timberwolves with 25 kills and four aces. … Missy Huddleston had 10 kills to guide Coeur d’Alene (2-1) to 3-0 sweep over visiting Post Falls (0-2).

Intermountain League: Bonners Ferry (3-0) posted a 3-1 win over visiting Kellogg.
