In brief: Getty oil fortune heir found dead in home

From Wire Reports

LOS ANGELES – Andrew Getty, an heir to the Getty oil fortune, was found dead at his Hollywood Hills home Tuesday, and Los Angeles County coroner’s investigators said the death was most likely due to natural causes or an accident.

Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said the death appeared to be natural but had been tentatively ruled an accident because of medication found at the scene.

Police were called to Getty’s compound at 2:18 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andrew Smith. A woman who was present at the time of the death was escorted from the residence by police for questioning.

Getty had sought a restraining order against a woman two weeks ago, according to court records. His attorney declined to comment.

Getty, 47, was the grandson of oil baron J. Paul Getty and part of the Getty trust. He is one of four sons of Gordon P. Getty, one of J. Paul Getty’s three sons. Gordon Getty has a net worth of $2.1 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

Mitchell hospitalized; condition unknown

LOS ANGELES – Joni Mitchell was hospitalized in Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to the Twitter account and website of the folk singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, but details on her condition have not been released.

“Joni has been hospitalized,” said a statement on the Mitchell website. “We are awaiting official word on her condition and will post it here as soon as we know.”

Los Angeles fire officials said paramedics answered an afternoon 911 call in Bel Air, where Mitchell lives, and took a patient to the hospital.

The 71-year-old singer-songwriter told Billboard magazine in December that she has a rare skin condition, Morgellons disease, which prevents her from performing. She released a career-spanning four-disc box set last year and appeared at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party in February.

Mitchell has received eight Grammy Awards, including a lifetime achievement award in 2002. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
