Obituary: Anderson, Paul Terry

Age 93

ANDERSON, Paul Terry Was born November 29, 1921 to Paul and Evelyn (Terry) Anderson in Valley, Washington.

He passed away on April 2, 2015 in his home.

Paul’s early years were spent in Orient, Wash-ington.

He attended Gonzaga Prep High School in Spokane and graduated in 1939.

He worked for a railroad crew for six months.

Paul went to live with his grandparents in Tacoma and attended the University of Puget Sound.

He worked for a sheet metal company for a while and then was hired by Boeing as a riveter.

At Boeing he met the love of his life, Twila Caughey.

They were married May 30, 1943 in Sandpoint, Idaho.

He served in the Army in World War II in the 182nd Infantry Rifle Brigade as an expert marksman.

He was assigned to the South Pacific.

He was injured in Cebu, Philippines and honorably discharged earning a Purple Heart.

He took classes at Gonzaga College and was hired by the Washington State Highways as a civil engineer.

He worked on a survey crew initially and later on in the main office as a draftsman handling blueprints.

Paul and Twila raised seven children born from 1944 to 1961.

Paul enjoyed the outdoors.

He loved hunting and fishing and camping and passed on this love to his children.

Paul enjoyed family gatherings for holidays and special occasions.

He loved to plant and tend a garden and took a special pride in his tomatoes and dahlias.

Paul was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which he served in many capacities.

Along with Twila they spent 18 months in Germany on a church mission.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Twila; sons Terry (Mary Ann) of Deer Park, Russell (Georgianna) of Cheney, Mark of Spokane; and daughters Joyce (Joe) Bond of Republic, Paula Carter, and Gayle Fisk of Spokane.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Evelyn, his son Steven, his grandson Seth Carter and a brother Jack.

Paul and Twila lay proud claim to 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the Veteran’s Administration of Spokane for their kindness and help.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11 AM with a family viewing at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 808 E. Sitka, Spokane, WA.

Burial to follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
