Obituary: Smith, James Martin “Jim”

Age 88

SMITH, James Martin “Jim” (Age 88) James Martin Smith passed away peacefully on April 1, 2015.

He was born on January 22, 1927 to Ralph Smith and Theresa Kroiss Smith.

He was adored and loved by all for his funny stories and sense of humor.

He was a blessing to his family and will never be forgotten.

Jim was an Army Veteran of World War II.

He worked in the construction industry where he designed and built many homes and commercial buildings in the Spokane area.

He was a member of the AIBD, American Institute of Building Design.

Jim was an avid photographer, taking hundreds of pictures for various Ferris athletic teams.

He served on the original building committee at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and was an honorary member of St. Martha’s Altar Guild.

Jim married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Edna Fisher on May 8, 1949.

He was a great family man and very loving father.

He got great joy from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was the best Dad and Papa ever.

He is survived by Edna Smith, his wife of 65 years; his three daughters: Lisa Brown and son-in-law Eric, Cynthia Beaulaurier and son-in-law Alan, Gail Chobotov and son-in-law Michael; six grandchildren: Adam Jackson (Holly), Arianne Johnson (Brandon), Jared Brown, Trevor Brown, Greg Chobotov, and Steven Chobotov; three great-grandchildren: Jillian, Marcus and Elliot Jackson; sister Clare Cortesy ( Jim); brother-in-law Joe LeBrun, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Theresa Smith and sister Mary LeBrun.

Family and friends can celebrate Jim’s life on April 18, 2015 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., Spokane, WA at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Stephen’s Celebration of Life Garden or a charity of your choice.
