Obituary: Henke, Laura Jean Middleton

HENKE, Laura Jean Middleton Jean was born September 24, 1916 at the Bunco Ranger Station near Belmont, Idaho to Clifford and Bessie Middleton.

She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School, Lewiston Normal, and Eastern Washington State College.

She married Ervin Henke May 29, 1942 and taught school in Grand Coulee, WA.

If you went to 1st grade there, prior to 1980, chances are good that she taught you to read.

Jean was active in the G.C.

Seniors, Delta Kappa Gamma, and was a Deacon in the Electric City Baptist Church.

In her last years, she made her home at the Rockwood at Hawthorne Retirement Community in Spokane.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy; brother, Clifford; husband; two grandchildren: Candy Henke Steele and Michael Dean Sutton Jr; and son-in-law, Terry Mort.

She is survived by her children Cliff (Judy) Henke, Diane Mort, Carolyn (Roy) Campbell, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two (soon to be 3) great-grandchildren.

Our deepest thanks to the Rockwood staff for the loving care given to our mom during her last years.

Memorial gifts can be made to the Grand Coulee Senior Center or one could make donations of school supplies in her name to the Grand Coulee Dam Schools, or any school.

A Celebration of her Life is being planned and will take place at the Grand Coulee Senior Center.
