Liberty Lake police blotter: Thieves make hundreds in string of car prowls

Vehicle prowls are back on the map in Liberty Lake, with thieves making off with hundreds of dollars of valuables April 6 to 13.

A resident in the 1100 block of North Malvern Road told police on April 11 that his car was smoking after it was broken into. Several items were missing from the vehicle.

A purse was among the items stolen from an unlocked car in the same block of Malvern on April 12. The woman’s debit card had already been used at a local business before she could report it missing.

An estimated $700 worth of items were taken in a third vehicle prowl in the 2400 block of East Sharp on April 12.

Other calls April 6-13:

April 6: An officer was called to the 3400 block of North Corrigan for an accident. A truck was found facing the wrong way and missing a front tire on the side of the road. An 11-year-old boy was caught attempting to steal items valued at $90 from a business in the 1500 block of North Liberty Lake Road. He was released to a parent.

April 8: A Mercedes hood ornament was reported stolen from a car in the 2200 block of North Sedge Lane. A car was reported stolen in the 24000 block of East Desmet Road.

April 9: A resident in the 25000 block of East Hawkstone Loop reported that a neighbor kept ringing the doorbell and running away. The neighbor, who was intoxicated, was contacted and agreed to stay home.

April 11: An apparent case of illegal dumping was reported in the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road. The truck could not be located.

April 12: Two panhandlers holding a sign were reported at County Vista Drive and Liberty Lake Road. An officer determined they were holding a sign trying to shame a local resident in regard to a recent inheritance that one of them thought she deserved a part of. More than $1,700 in tools was reported stolen from the 23000 block of East Valleyway.

Arrests: Nine arrests for driving with a suspended license and one on a warrant.

Citations: Three for failure to show proof of liability insurance, two for speeding and citations for expired vehicle registration, driving without a license, defective muffler, illegal use of studded tires, operating a motorcycle without mirrors, texting while driving, failure to use a child restraint and violating traffic laws by bicycle.
