Gonzaga will face Washington in battle 4 Atlantis in November
Gonzaga and Washington will renew their rivalry a year ahead of schedule.
The Zags and Huskies will meet in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Nov. 25 in Paradise Island, Bahamas, tournament organizers announced.
The schools previously agreed to a four-year, home-and-home series beginning in the 2016-17 season. Washington holds a 29-14 edge in the series, but Gonzaga won eight of nine from 1998-2006. The Zags thumped the Huskies 97-77 in the most recent meeting in 2006 behind Derek Raivio’s 25 points. GU’s Adam Morrison scored 43 points in the 2005 contest won by UW, 99-95.
Texas faces Texas A&M on the other half of the GU-UW bracket.
• Washington State University will face Oklahoma in its first game of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22 at the Stan Sheriff Center on the campus of Hawaii at Honolulu.
The matchup between the Cougars and the Sooners will be televised on ESPNU.
The other three opening-day matchups are Auburn vs. New Mexico, BYU vs. Harvard and Northern Iowa vs. host Hawaii.
