Vancouver takes finale from Indians

The Vancouver Canadians scored three unearned runs in the sixth to overtake the Spokane Indians 3-2 on Sunday in the final game of a four-game Northwest League series at Avista Stadium. With the loss and Everett’s win over Tri-City, the Indians’ elimination number is down to one. Ryan Metzler reached first on an error by third baseman Ti’Quan Forbes, his 19th miscue in 54 games, to open the Vancouver sixth. Justin Atkinson followed with a single and Ryan Hissey an RBI double. Dario Beltre relieved starter Cody Palmquist and hit the next batter to load the bases. Forbes started an around-the-horn double play as another run scored. Jason Richmond relieved Beltre and Connor Panas picked up an infield hit to third base for another run and a 3-2 lead. Dylan Moore hit his seventh home run in the first for Spokane, which collected another run in the second on Yeyson Yrizarri’s two-out infield hit that scored Tyler Sanchez. Sanchez had singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on Leon Byrd’s infield hit. Palmquist (2-4) gave up five hits and a walk while striking out two. Four relievers combined to give up two hits and two walks while striking out three. Sanchez had two of the Indians’ eight hits. Vancouver won the season series 7-5. The Indians play their final three home games when Everett visits beginning Tuesday.
