Boys basketball roundup: Late rally sends Gonzaga Prep past Wenatchee

Logan Adams scored 15 points and Anton Watson added 11 points and seven rebounds as Gonzaga Prep ended the game on a 10-2 run and clipped Wenatchee 45-43 in the Bullpups’ season-opener Saturday at Gonzaga Prep.

The Panthers went on a 19-5 run in the second half to take a 41-35 lead before Gonzaga Prep’s game-ending run.

Wenatchee was led by Gavin Long’s 16 points and Grady Miller’s 10 points.

Mead 67, Australia 53: Dedrick Pakootas scored 16 points and the Panthers (1-1) opened the game on a 15-3 run and beat the Australian’s at Mead. Vinny Saldana and Bailey Hiebert-Saldana added a combined 16 points for Mead. Stephen Sochack and Luke Black scored 16 and 15, respectively, for the Australian’s.

McNary (Oregon) 71, University 63: Harry Cavell made all 12 of his free throws and finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Celtics topped the Titans (1-1) at The Fitz tournament at Lewis and Clark. LC’s Elijah Ramirez scored 15 points, Austin Dill had 14 and Clark Barrington added nine points and 10 rebounds. McNary outscored the Tigers 28-14 in the fourth.

Coeur d’Alene 66, Eastmont 48: The Vikings (2-1) put up 30 fourth-quarter points and raced past the Wildcats in Coeur d’Alene. Joey Naccarato led Coeur d’Alene with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Will McElver added 13 points and six rebounds. Byron Porter led Eastmont with 23 points.

Post Falls 71, West Valley 52: The Trojans turned a close game into a rout with a 29-10 fourth-quarter run and Post Falls (2-0) topped the Eagles (2-1) at the Border Clash at West Valley. The Trojans Max McCullough scored 23 points and Jacob Pfennigs added 21. The duo combined for 17 in the final quarter. West Valley’s Brennen Folkins scored 17 points and Johnny Sage added 16.

Lake City 54, North Central 40: Kenny Louie-McGee scored 19 points and the Timberwolves (1-1) pulled away with a 19-9 third-quarter run and beat the Indians (0-3) at the Border Clash at West Valley. Riley Smith led North Central with 16 points.

Lakeland 64, Bonners Ferry 43: Kaden Davis scored 14 points and hit three of his four 3-pointers in Lakeland’s 20-4 second-quarter run as the Hawks (1-0) topped the Badgers (0-1) in Rathdrum. Dan McDevitt added 14 points and four assists and Forest Zubaly chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds for Lakeland. Crisp ball movement led to easy buckets in the second quarter and the Hawks turned a three-point first-quarter lead into a 36-17 advantage at the half. Caleb Blackmore tallied a team-high 13 points for Bonners Ferry.

Pullman 75, Grandview 73: Jake Cillay scored 27 points, James Miles had 23 and William Pitzer chipped in 16 as Pullman (3-0) edged Grandview in Pullman. Grandview’s Gunner Chronis tallied a game-high 43 points.

Colfax 63, Deer Park 45: Keith Gfeller made 5 of 9 3-pointers, 9 of 10 free throws, and finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds to guide the Bulldogs past the visiting Stags. Colfax trailed by four after the first quarter but gained control with an 18-6 second-quarter run. Danny Robinson added 11 points for the Bulldogs. Carter Countryman led Deer Park with 12 points.

Liberty 60, Medical Lake 52: Chase Burnham scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds and the Lancers (2-0) forced 20 turnovers in a win over the host Cardinals (0-1). Keith Dumaw added 10 points and eight rebounds for Liberty. Corey Wagner led Medical Lake with 20 points.

Priest River 57, Riverside 39: The Spartans (1-0) set the tone with a 23-7 first-quarter run and beat the Rams (0-2) in Riverside. Mason Clark scored 14 points and Hunter Hartwig added 13 for Priest River. The Rams were led by Kory Cross, who scored 11.

St. Maries 74, Rosalia 32: The Lumberjacks (2-0) opened the game on a 16-0 run and beat the host Spartans. Jack Siler hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points to lead St. Maries. Brady Martin added 15 points, including 11 in the decisive first quarter. He also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Columbia (Burbank) 62, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 53: Jermaine Brutje and Chayce Sorbel combined for 36 points to lead the Coyotes past the host Broncos (0-1). Jacob Saetre led LRS with 20 points.

St. George’s 68, Chewelah 43: In a game featuring a combined 70 free throws, the Dragons (3-0) got the best of the visiting Cougars (0-3). St. George’s Erik Farias scored a game-high 25 points and added five assists and four rebounds. Jensen Holloway led Chewelah with 10 points.

Kettle Falls 66, Tonasket 55: Dakota Krumpler scored 27 points and Danny Truque added 22 as the Bulldogs (1-2) erased an early 10-point deficit and beat the visiting Tigers. Truque scored 11 in the fourth as Kettle Falls outscored Tonasket 29-11. Jesse Ramon scored 17 for the Tigers, including three 3-pointers.

Selkirk 56, Oakesdale 51: Parker Perry hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 23 points as the Rangers (3-0) withstood the Nighthawks’ (0-3) fourth-quarter rally and won in Oakesdale. Cole Dawson also had 23 points for Selkirk and Tanner Dingman chipped in six points, six rebounds and eight steals.

Wilbur-Creston 71, Odessa-Harrington 34: Jacob Clark hit six first-half 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as the Wildcats dumped the Titans in Odessa. Dorian Jaeger added 12 points for Wilbur-Creston.

Yakama Tribal 57, Wellpinit 55: The Eagles came away with a steal with 4 seconds left to put away the Redskins (1-1) at the Wellpinit tournament. Justin Strom scored 17 points and Isaiah Strom added 12 for Yakama Tribal. Wellpinit’s Alfonso Salines led all scorers with 22.

Springdale 83, Inchelium 46: Chandler Carr led four players in double figures with 20 points as the Chargers (3-0) overwhelmed the host Hornets (1-1). Tyrone Dennis added 17 points and Austin Howden chipped in 15 for Springdale.

Garfield-Palouse 66, Prescott 33: Matt Holbrook scored 21 points to lead the Vikings (2-0) past the host Tigers. Jose Gonzalez led Prescott with 17 points.

Republic 56, Moses Lake Christian 31: Aaron Fritts tallied a game-high 25 points and the Tigers (3-0) routed the visiting Lions. Sam Roeber and Ben Cabellero scored 10 points apiece for Moses Lake Christian.

Valley Christian 46, Northport 35: Chase Strunk scored 16 points to guide the Panthers (1-1) past the host Mustangs (0-2). Northport was led by Aiden Middlesworth, who had 18 points on 9-of-16 shooting and 12 rebounds.
