Girls basketball roundup: Ferris edges Tenison Woods

Bria Bowton hit a bank shot with 10 seconds left and Ferris survived Tenison Woods’ fourth-quarter surge in a 60-59 win Saturday at Mead.

Bowton’s game-winner was her first made shot since the first quarter. Tenison Wooods (Australia) rallied late to erase a 17-point deficit and had a chance to win it, but the shot was off the mark.

Abby Muelheim had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Megan Muelheim added 13 points for the Saxons.

Tenison Woods’ Olivia Fuller led all scorers with 21. Ferris improved to 2-0.

South Salem 79, Lewis and Clark 77: Evina Westbrook scored 29 points and Dani Harley added 23 as the Saxons edged the Tigers (1-1) at The Fitz tournament at Lewis and Clark. Harley hit seven 3-pointers and also had eight steals. Lewis and Clark’s Riley Lupfer scored 22 points, Taylor Cunningham had 21 and Jacinta Buckley chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilson 60, Gonzaga Prep 59: Josie Matz scored 24 points and hit two free throws with 12 seconds left to give the Rams a win over the Bullpups (0-3) in Tacoma. Gonzaga Prep led by seven with 4 minute left, but Wilson rallied with free throws. The Bullpups, on the other hand, made just 14 of 29 from the free-throw line. Molly McDermott scored 20 points and Tayler Drynan added 16 for Gonzaga Prep.

Post Falls 74, West Valley 37: Kennady McComb scored 18 points and Glory Ellison added 13 as the Trojans (3-0) opened the game on a 22-3 run and eased past the Eagles (0-3) at the Border Clash at West Valley. Lily Sinner led West Valley with 14 points.

Lake City 70, North Central 43: Whitney Meier scored 20 points as the Timberwolves (3-0) dominated from the get-go in an easy win over the Indians (0-3) at the Border Clash at West Valley. Megan Dean had 16 points and Quincy McDeid added nine for North Central.

Eastmont 41, Coeur d’Alene 39: Despite making 14 of 30 free throws, Eastmont did enough to get past Coeur d’Alene (2-1) in East Wenatchee. Coeur d’Alene led by nine at the half, but couldn’t get anything going offensively in the second half. The Vikings were led by Rey Louden’s 13 points. Coeur d’Alene’s Kayla Fagan launched a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer that hit the front iron.

Lakeland 28, Bonners Ferry 27: The Hawks used aggressive full-court pressure defense in the fourth quarter to help erase a 10-point deficit and Tauna Kirk’s go-ahead bucket with just more than 2 minutes left held up as Lakeland (2-1) edged the Badgers (0-1) in Rathdrum. Bonners Ferry had a few chances late in the game to go back ahead, but the shots wouldn’t fall. Kirk finished with 10 points and six steals and Savannah Pruitt added eight points and six rebounds. Trinity Golder led Bonners Ferry with 10 points.

Clarkston 56, Sandpoint 41: Jaclyn Meyers scored 15 points and the Bantams (1-0) topped the Bulldogs (1-3) at the Pendleton Classic in Pendleton, Oregon. Grace Kirscher had 17 points and Madi Schoening chipped in 15 for Sandpoint.

Colfax 45, Deer Park 19: Carmen Gfeller had 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals to guide the Bulldogs (1-1) past the visiting Stags (0-2).

Riverside 23, Priest River 19: The Rams (2-0) outscored the Spartans 10-2 in the fourth and beat Priest River in a low-scoring affair at Priest River. Alley Shannon had eight points for Riverside.

St. Maries 58, Tekoa-Rosalia 32: Kelsey Ayer had 15 points and Shelby Holder added 11 as the Lumberjacks topped the host Timberwolves (1-1). Nikki Overton had nine points and 10 rebounds for Tekoa-Rosalia, but the Timberwolves shot just 14 percent from the field.

Garfield-Palouse 74, Prescott 14: Payson Griner scored 23 points and Holly Brown and Katie Arrasmith added 16 apiece as the Vikings (1-1) routed the Tigers in Prescott.

Curlew 51, Columbia 27: Korin Baker scored 14 points and Jana Dlerma added 10 as the Cougars (1-0) opened the game on a 15-3 run and dumped the visiting Lions (0-1). Bessie Hill led Columbia with 13 points.

Oakesdale 54, Selkirk 42: Jacey Johnson scored 15 points and Logan Reed added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Nighthawks (1-1) erased an eight-point halftime deficit and beat the visiting Rangers (0-2). Selkirk’s Gabi Rick tallied a game-high 16 points.

Wilbur-Creston 39, Odessa-Harrington 33: Sarah Dreger scored 13 points to guide the Wildcats (2-0) past the host Titans (0-2). Amber Smith led Odessa-Harrington with 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.
