Borislava Hristova scored 21 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds in leading the Washington State women’s basketball team to a 78-72 victory over host San Diego on Sunday.
Caila Hailey added a career-high 11 points for the Cougars (7-1), who handed the Toreros (7-1) their first defeat..
The Cougars shot 54 percent from the field and the WSU bench outscored the Toreros’ 32-4.
The Cougars went on an 11-3 run to regain the lead, 73-66, with two minutes left. The Toreros cut the WSU lead to three with 45 seconds to play before senior Mariah Cooks put the game away with a layup and free throw.
Washington State is host to Gonzaga for a Tuesday night game at 7 o’clock.
