Girls Basketball: Mt. Spokane beats Mead in overtime
Three players scored in double figures to lead Mt. Spokane to a 68-58 overtime win over visiting Mead in a foul-plagued Greater Spokane League girls basketball game Friday.
Mt. Spokane outscored Mead 16-5 in overtime.
Kaylee Piper led Mt. Spokane (2-1, 2-1) with 20 points, hitting 9 of 13 free throws. Teammates Jaidyn Lyman and Megan Nilsson added 15 and 11 points respectively.
Aaliyah Pauling led Mead (2-2, 2-1) with 18 points and Payton Douglass added 13.
There were 52 fouls and five technical fouls called in the game. Mt. Spokane made 36 of 53 foul shots to Mead’s 17 of 25.
Central Valley 49, University 35: The visiting Bears (4-0, 3-0) overcame a 17-10 first-quarter deficit against the Titans (2-3, 2-1). Sophomore Lexi Hull led CV with a career high 39 points, making 19 of 22 free throws. The Bears went to a zone defense with 4 minutes to go in the third and the Titans only scored six more points in the final 12 minutes. Kaitlin Pannell led the Titans with 12 points.
Gonzaga Prep 53, North Central 44: The visiting Bullpups (1-4, 1-2) handled the Indians (0-5, 0-3) over the final three quarters. Tayler Drynan led G-Prep with 16 points and Mia Scelfo added 13. Megan Dean led the Indians with 10 and five steals.
Ferris 70, Shadle Park 43: The Saxons (3-1, 2-1) were too much for the visiting Highlanders (0-4, 0-3). Megan Muelheims led the Saxons with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds. Bria Bowton added 16 points, eight assists and five steals and Lexi Erickson had 10 points. Abby Bauernfeind led the Highlanders with 11 points. Ferris led 28-9 after the first quarter and 48-26 by halftime.
Lewis and Clark 72, Rogers 26: Behind five players in double-figure scoring, the Tigers (3-1, 3-0) cruised to a 36-12 lead at intermission over the visiting Pirates (0-4, 0-3). Brooklyn Howlett led the balanced Tigers with 13 points, Riley Lupfer and Dominique Arquette had 12 apiece and Arianna Reeves and Taylor Cunningham had 10 each for LC. Atyzha Upton led Rogers with nine.
