Boys basketball roundup: Gonzaga Prep secures GSL win over Central Valley

Devin Culp and Kea Vargas scored 14 points apiece and Gonzaga Prep opened Greater Spokane League play with a 68-51 win over Central Valley Saturday in Gonzaga Prep.

The Bullpups outscored the Bears 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 13-point halftime lead. Brandon Bieber added 13 points and Logan Adams chipped in 12 for Gonzaga Prep, which had 17 total assists.

Central Valley’s Ryan Rehkow scored 12, Josh Thomas had 11 and Cameron Tucker chipped in 10.

Clarkston 70, Rogers 50: Trevon Allen made four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as the Bantams used a 20-5 first-quarter run to get past the visiting Pirates. Jeff Sobotta also had four 3’s and added 15 points for Clarkston. The Pirates were led by J.J. Curry’s 13 points.

Chiawana 76, Post Falls 50: Andrey Boloshin scored 22 points and the Riverhawks pulled away with a 28-14 fourth-quarter run and beat the Trojans in Pasco. Max McCullough tallied a game-high 24 points for Post Falls.

East Valley 39, Sandpoint 30: Jeremiah Hillard and Eli Holecek scored 10 points apiece and the Knights topped the host Bulldogs. A 14-5 third-quarter run gave East Valley a 33-17 lead heading into the fourth.

Deer Park 53, Priest River 41: Dante Myers led three players in double figures with 15 points and the Stags topped the host Spartans. Deer Park’s Carter Countryman added 11 points and Connor Markham chipped in 10. Priest River’s Hunter Hartwig led all scorers with 18.

Newport 54, Bonners Ferry 47: Ty McDaniel scored 16 points and Robert Owen added 15 as the Grizzlies surged ahead with a 22-8 fourth-quarter run and topped the host Badgers. Bonners Ferry’s Caleb Blackmore led all scorers with 24.

Valley Christian 49, Coeur d’Alene Charter 47: Mike Campbell’s late bucket gave Valley Christian a win over visiting Coeur d’Alene Charter. James Segalla led Valley Christian with 16 points and eight rebounds and Braydon Oliver added 13 points and six boards.

Great Northern

West Valley 60, Cheney 50: John Sage scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the decisive third quarter and the Eagles outlasted the host Blackhawks. Brennan Folkins added 15 points and Austin Yoakum added 11 for West Valley, which outscored Cheney 21-11 in the third. Cheney’s Cam Hardt and Justace Reiter combined for 25 points.

Northeast 2B North

Northwest Christian 60, Reardan 25: Asher Cox scored 18 points and Ryan Ricks added eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists as the Crusaders dumped the visiting Indians. Jordan Rohweeder scored 10 for Reardan, which was held to 15 points throught three quarters.

Davenport 62, Springdale 56: Nathan Hopkins scored 24 points and Layne Smith added 18 as the Gorillas held off the visiting Chargers. Springdale’s John Lynch had 22 points and Chandler Carr added 20.

Wilbur-Creston 66, Kettle Falls 37: Jacob Clark made seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points to guide the Wildcats past the Bulldogs in Wilbur. Wilbur-Creston’s Dorian Jaeger added 11 steals and 10 assists and Tucker Odegaard chipped in 15 points.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 52, Colfax 47: The Broncos ended the game on a 6-0 run through the final 3 minutes and beat the Bulldogs in Ritzville. LRS’ Wyatt Roettger had 15 points and eight rebounds and his lay-in with 30 seconds left gave the Broncos a two-possession lead. Colfax’s Danny Robinson hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points.

St. George’s 70, Tekoa-Rosalia 33: Erik Farias led four players in double figures with 15 points and the Dragons routed the Timberwolves in Rosalia. St. George’s Collin Cremers had 13, Cade Peplinski added 12 and Isaac Werkman chipped in 10.

Selkirk 51, Curlew 43: Jacob Couch had 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals and the Rangers beat the host Cougars. Curlew’s Kyle Engebretson hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points and Gunner Brown added 13 points and seven steals.

Republic 71, Inchelium 43: Taylor Campbell had 22 points and seven rebounds and Adrian McCarthy added 21 points and eight boards as the Tigers dumped the visiting Hornets. Aaron Fritz added 17 points for Republic.

Northeast 1B South

Odessa-Harrington 61, Columbia 38: Colton Hunt made 8 of 16 shots and finished with 21 points as the Titans topped the Lions in Harrington. John DeWulf added 14 points and eight rebounds for Odessa-Harrington.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 72, Wellpinit 40: Logan Bohnet tallied a game-high 15 points as the Warriors responded after a sluggish first quarter and beat the host Redskins. ACH trailed 12-8 after the first quarter, but outscored Wellpinit 24-10 in the second quarter. Brandon Flett led the Redskins with 13 points.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 61, Oakesdale 35: Ian Neibergs scored 19 points and Matt Holbrook added 17 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists as the Vikings opened the game on a 14-3 run and eased past the Nighthawks in Garfield. Garfield-Palouse won the rebounding battle 34-13 and forced 28 turnovers.
