Men’s basketball: Whitworth wins to improve to 8-0

Christian Jurlina scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the first half and the second-ranked Whitworth men’s basketball team improved to 8-0 with a 72-56 nonconference win over Colorado College Saturday in Newberg, Oregon.

The Pirates’ Drew Sears added 16 points and George Valle chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Whitworth made 20 of 31 first-half shots and lead 46-30 at the half.

James Lonergan led Colorado College (2-4) with 16 points. The Pirates beat the Tigers 73-66 on Nov. 28.

Whitworth hosts Millsaps in a nonconference game next Saturday.

CC Spokane 90, Southwestern Oregon 80: Jacob DeVries had 23 points and nine rebounds and the Sasquatch (9-1) erased a 16-point first-half deficit and beat the Lakers (6-4) in the semifinals of the Dale J. Bates Invitational in Eugene.

Levi Taylor added 21 points and Dalton Patchen chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds for CCS, which trailed 48-22 at halftime.

The Sasquatch got their offense going after halftime. They made 21 of 41 shots, including 7 of 20 3-pointers and 9 of 12 free throws. They’ll play Seattle in Sunday’s title game.

North Idaho 103, Southern Idaho 83: Brayon Blake scored 33 points on 13-of-23 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Cardinals (13-0, 1-0) past the Golden Eagles (9-4, 0-1) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference opener in Coeur d’Alene.

Haywood Irwin added 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting and Braian Angola-Rodas chipped in 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists for NIC. The Cardinals committed just four turnovers.

Shaq Carr tallied a team-high 25 points for Southern Idaho.
