Stop preferential treatment

The Dec. 4 Spokesman-Review article regarding whether or not Police Officer Gordon Ennis should continue getting a salary after being arrested on a second-degree rape charge sickened me. What in God’s name is wrong with the Police Guild, the Police Department and Mayor David Condon?

There is a woman who has been violated. This cop is accused of second-degree rape, is placed on paid leave, finally arrested and booked, which took a mere 10 minutes. Now, he is out on his own recognizance. And a committee is going to decide whether he is going to continue receiving a salary?

He does not deserve a salary. At the very least, he should be in jail until his trial. I don’t know about others, but I am tired of our cops getting preferential treatment.

Stop the paid leave while the investigation is underway. No one else would get paid under this circumstance. If a cop is arrested, throw him in jail like the rest and let them post bail.

I grew up in Spokane, and I am really not proud of our city leaders today. I certainly don’t feel safe.
